AN ORIGINAL GENIUS.

A well-dressed man, leaning against a ; lamp-post, and apparently sleeping the sleep of the just, created a great deal qf • interest jin* a' busy : street the other day. He sat on a box which he seemed tp have been (^rrying; evidently being suddenly overcome with drowsiness, . he had placed it on the kerbstone, and, sitting down upon it, fallen asleep. To those who succeeded in getting close enough to the man, his gentle restive snore dispelled the fear that he might be dead. The side of his face was exposed and betrayed no sign of intoxication. It was . the judgment of everyone that he was sober, in good health, and simply takiDg a quiet snooze. . When; the crowd became so dense as to threaten a blockade, the „ supposed sleeper suddenly jumped to his feet,' mounted his box, and flourishing a couple of : bpttles oyer his head, exclaimed—

V " Now,, gents, seem', that you are all here, T rise to a question oi privilege, and after thankin', you for this most cordial reception, which Ir assure you will long remain upon the tablets of my memory, I wish to .call your attention to my world-renowned corn and bunion eradicator," and so on in the usual styl?.

No gentleman will ever use the power which the knowledge pf an offence, a false step, or unfortunate, exposure of weakness, give s him merely to enjoy the power of humiliating bis neighbour.
