KAITANGATA
(From our own Correspondent ) June 26. EABLY CLOSING. Ab yet, Kaitangata has not made its move in this direction. Public meetings have been held elsewhere, and in each instance met with success. The majority of shopkeepers here close their establishments at ? 30, while others keep open until 8 and up to midnight. A public meeting Bhould be called, and endeavours made to organise a Bystem to close business places at a certain hour. In the majority of small towns a half-holiday during each week has been established, and in this instance, also, Kaitangata is found in the background. SKATING. The succession of hard frosts raised hopes of having skating on the lake, but as a thaw has set in those hopes are blighted for the present. STBBET LIGHTING. There was only one applicant for office of lamp-lighter, and the Council thinking the tender too high has called fresh tenders for Ist prox.
