The London Press confirms a report which has lately been circulated to the effect that the Ameership of Afghanistan has been offered to the Afghan Pretender, Abdul Rahman Khan The offer is said to k&vo been mn-do in consequence of Abdul Rahman's friendly relations with the British Government, and in order to conciliate the Afghans and to naintain the dynasty of Dost Mahomed. At the wool sales to-day 11,500 bales were offered - making a total of 300,700 catalogued sineo the opening. The tone of to-day's sales showed that prices were firmly maintained. The withdrawals from the sales to date amount to 14,000 bales. Pig-iron is at 50s. There is a fair demand for most descriptions of hides. Prices are Is Sd lower. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,770,000 quarter?. Leather is quoted at 11 id. At the wool sales to-day 8500 bales were offered, making a total of 309,200 catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sales showed a firm and active demand, The following promotions have been made in the Order of St. Michael and St. George: — Commandero — Major George Cumine Strahan, Governor of Tasmania. Companions — Charles Dommett, Esq., of New Zealand ; John Bates ThurstoD, Esq., Colonial Stcretary of Fiji. A European Conference will be held at Berlin next month. At present the questions to be discussed will be limited to those connected with the Greek frontier. It is, however, uncertain whether the discussion will be extended to other questions.

Hongkong, May 26. The opening prices for China teas at Foochow are two taels above last year's. The quality is considered about the same as last season's.

Rome, May 27. The elections to the Italian Parliament are now proceeding. Garibaldi has chosen the opportunity to address a letter to the electors, in which he severely attacks the present dynasty, and declares that it is ruining Italy.

Valparaiso, May 20. The ship Antipodes, bound from Sydney to London, which put in here recently in a leaky state, iind to discharge cargo, will probably have to be condemned.

Constantinople, May '29. The Right Hon. G. J. Goschen has arrived. He will temporarily act as special ambassador for Great Britain to the Porte.
