Wanganui, Nfay 31. The case against John Selkirk Capstick, for fraudulent proceedings in connection with his bankruptcy, broke down. The information being dismissed, and four guineas costs being awarded to Capstick.
Ciiristchuecu, May 31. An inquest has been commenced on the body of the infant found iv the Avon on Saturday, and adjourned till Friday. A walking match for twenty-four hours has been arranged between Swan, of Christchnrch, and Gleeson, of Timaru, for LIOO a-side. John Hill, working in a shingle-pit at Dunsandel on Saturday, had one of his legs severely crushed by a portion of the upper bank falling on him. Mr R. Ray has disposed of his training establishment and racing stud to Dr Prins, of Chriatchurch,
Timaku, May 31 Frank Fowler, a Malay, has been committed for trial for rape on a girl aged sixteen, at Temuka. For tripping a constable and rescuing a drunken man, Edward Phillips, was sentenced to forty-eight hours without the option of a fine. Phillips excused himself by saying that he had just been discharged from the hospital and driuk took a strong effect on him.

Wellington, May 31 At the Appeal Court this morning, in the case of the Queen v. Hale, an appeal from the Supreme Court at Wellington, the conviction was quashed. In the Queen v. Xernarvana, an appeal from Auckland, the conviction was upheld. The injuries received by the man White on Saturday proved fatal. Aii inquest is being held this afternoon.
