ST. JOHN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL, MILTON.

• ANNUAL TREAT. The annual gathering of the children of the above Sunday School took place on Easter Tuesday. The arrangements made were, as has so often been the case on previous occasions, much impeded by the inclemency of the weather. Our fine . warm dry days on EaEter Day and Easter Monday led to the hope that the same would prevail the day following — but alas ! like many another fete, by the fate of the weather the proposed plan was frustrated. With the kind permission of Mr james^Elder "Brown," the gathering of the children was to have been in his paddock, but on account of the rain it was held, as on previous occasions, in the Volunteer Hall. The expectations of the children had for many days been oil the very pinnacle of hope and expectation. Soon 'after mid-day the children kej.t arriving from all parts, and there was a very large muster. They assayed to amuse themselves, the boys by out -door amusements between the showers, and the girls by in-door games — and so the time seemed to .pass rapidly until 4 p.m, the time for the tea. )he children were arranged round the room and across to the number of over 150, when grace was sung, and the grand assault took place. Now it was a race between the teachers and children as to which should make most progress — the teachers in supplying the edibles or the children., in disposing of them. Gradually, but surely, the teachers were victorious, for after a well -displayed effort on their p*rt, most. , patiently aod eneryet'cally sustained, tiie children were . b ig< dto give in.
