FAIRFAX SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
* The annual meeting of householders to elect a committee for tbe year 1879, was held in the schoolhouse, Fairfax, on Moaduy evening last, at half past seven o'clock. About fifteen persons were present. Mr Parker was voted to tbe chair, and the report and balance-sheet were read as follows : — Gentlemen, — Your Committee, after taking oflice found it necessary, owing to the operation of the new Education Act, to have the scbool bui'diog3 enlarged, owing to the overcrowded stat* of the school. We made application to the Education Bjard for a grant of £100, which they reatily gave. The Board prepared plans an 1 specifications for the addition ; but, on calling f>c tenders, the tender fef Mr George Wdson was the lowest, the sum being £205. Your Committee bad again to apply to the Board to have the woiks carried out, when they readily complied with the wishes of the Committee. Your committee also made application for the appointment of a female teacher, which they at o.iee granted, your Committee leaving the appointment in tbeir hands. They appointed vlbs Stevenson, who, we are happy to say, has given great satisfaction since her appointment. Your Committee also received the services of Se» geanfc Smith, Lrill-ma^ter, gratis, once aweek to dri 1 the boys, aud we take this opportu ity of thanking him for hi 3 services. We have also to congratulate you upon- the success of the school, tbere being a large increase of pupils during the year. JuS'PH Pajjker, Chairman.
Joseph Parker, Audited and found correct. The adoption of the report and balancesheet was moved by Mr Hislop, seconded by Mr M'lntosh, and carried unanimously. As members of Committee for this year, there were nominated, Messrs Chisholm, Parker, Hislop, Parlane, Caruthers, Martin, Dunn, Nome, Mills, Ross and Groves, tin a ballot being taken, the following seven were elected : — Messrs Parker, Parline, Chisholm, Hislop, M'lntosh, Groves, and Carrutbers. Messrs Lyttle and Gordon acted as scrutineers. A vote of thanks terminated the proceedings.
