THE POPOTUNOA CASE.

To the Editor. Sir,—Your correspondent, "a True Dog,' is in my opinion unwise. I know but little of Preabyterianism, and consequently feel quite incompetent to give an opinion on the Popotunoa case from a Presbyterian point of view, but as a looker ou, from the fiercely intemperate language of your correspondent, 1 could imagine it quite possible for the well abused officerbearers of Popotunoa to be respectable men anxious to do that which was right. 1 think your correspondent not wise in unwittingly creating this impression. The master of all Christian denominations, when sending out evangelists, directed them when not listened to, to shake off the dust frem their feet, and to retire fr^m that city. Paul, though claiming the right of tupporfc from the churches, being an earnest mm for fche Gospel, put aside all claim rather thau tbat G >spel should suffer damage. What would Paul, if now on tarth liaving the ca<e of the churches, tbi- k when the Popotunoa case was presented for his decision ? The mi»ister offering to withdraw from his charge at the urgent desire of the fl ick, on condition that a handsome testimonial be presented him by the Presbytery as to his ministerial abirityand tULgenee —that he shall be guaranteed his stipend for two years, though it may be surmised for that period he may have no ministerial work —and further thafc he shall be compensated for all improvements made by him in the mansA, &o. In conclusion, I must once more repeat I think "a True Dog" an unwise ODe in drawing attention to this wretcln d case, if he would benefit the side he has taken, since there is a higher standard to judge of men and their actions than tbe Presbyterian, and judged by that standard your correspondent appears to me both as to ;_e side he has tak.m, and the way be has atta k d those opposed, to be grea ly in error. — I am, Ac, Veritas.
