[By Cable.] reutkr's special. London, January 7. The suspension of the Truro Bank has revived an uneasy feeling in commercial circles The Bank's liabilities were £500,000. January 8. The Premier is suffering from a severe attack of the gout. The depression of trade is causing a general movement far a reduction of wages. Numers ous strikes are occurring. 1500 goods guards and shunters on the Midland Raiiway have struck, January 9. Earl Beaconsfield's health ia improving now, and he is progressing favourably. The plague has broken out in Astrachan. The Russian authorities are endeavouring to localise it. It is authentically stated that the Ameer Shere Ali has entered Russian territory unattended by troops. [Feom the " Star."] London, January 7. The British troops are within three marches of Candahar. January 6The trade societies of London are supporting the strikers. There have been great strikes amongst the Yorkshire miners, engineers, and railway iron trades. January 7. The Duke of Buckingham, Governor of Mauritius, desires to come to Sydney as Governor. Other candidates for the post are Sir J. Henry Warde and Sir James Fergusson. January 9. The garrison at Heiwas are threatened by the Afghans, and have requested help. General Roberts has arrived ac Matoon. (Special to the * Argus.') London, January 6. Ellison, implicated in the Avoca gold robbery, has been discharged, the officers of the Crown being of opinion that as the warrant was issued for an offence on the high seas he might have been charged with an offence as ■■ -1 mit ted in Melbourne. The Victorian government have uot exclusive jurisdiction to justify a demand for Ellison's surrender. Mr Lewis, who prosecuted, does not intend to re-arrest Ellsson. The Magistrate, Mr Vanghan, observed that Wieberg's evidence was inadequate for a conviction.
