The Emperor's forearm is swollen to-day, but otherwise the symptoms are favourable', A conspiracy is suspected, to kill not only the present Emperor, but all the German Monarchs and Crown Princes. '< , The Derby was won by a length and" 1 a' half. The Socialists' 'conspiracy is found to be widespread. Many arrests are being made.' Severe and repressive measures are advocated ; and it is even suggested that the! European Conference should deal with the question. An Imperial decree has been issued conferring a temporary regency on the Crown Prince. t .In answer to a question,, the Chancellor of the Exchequer said that the English plenipotenitariea at the Congress will bejinstructed by, the Cabinet, and will decide all questions on their collective responsibility. Nothing will be submitted to Parliament until the conclusion of the Congress. June 7. The Crown* Prince has been proclaimed! regent to act for the Emperor during his incapacity, but without title. i Socialist leaders repudiate that they are i mobilising. Many arrests have been made. The Marquis of Salisbury pronaiees attention to the affairs of Armenia. , Sir Stafford Northcote has .referred the despatch to the Marquis i of Salisbuiy, indicating hisrpolicy in Jhe Congress. : It is stated here that on account of the salubrity of Prince's Islands the British squadron in the Sea of Marmora will be stationed there. June 8. The money marked is unchanged. The Bank reserve has been weakened by gold -withdrawals. Considerable amounts o£ gold are going to Paris: for Bourse settlements The stock markets are buoyant. Stocks most in favour are Egyptian, Turkish, Italian, and Hungarian. Consols are now quoted at 96 ex diviI dend. The market for Australian securities is remarkably firm ; healthy prices without 1 noticeable ' alteration. - The corn market it quiet. The May trade returns are unfavourable.
