Driver on Friday The Hon. Mattiew Holmes was in the chair. The b'th'ev' gentlemen' present were Jesses Driver, Mackerras, Ot. M. Bell (Southland), P. K M'Caugli.m. W. Guthrie, C. Reeves, T. SrGraham, B. A. iiowe, «R. Oliver,, J.\ Davidson, George Tumbull, John Roberts (Murray, Robjrts, &Co.), HallenatQin^C. Stewart, H. Tewsley, B. Sievwrignt, J. Davie, G. E3iott, J. Mills, A. Burfc, W. C. "Roberts, md R. Wilsoii. Speeches were delivered by the Chairman, Messrs Bell,- M'Caughan. and others jin the course of which they gave expresslion to the great confidence which they jhad in the undertaking, and referred to the (great benefit, -whiqb. it "would confer on LDunedin from a commercial point of view. t 'lfc was pointed out that it would open up 'a large agricultural district, and that it would bring into direct communication about 500,000 acres of land fit for settlement, and situated between the Elbow and Te Anau-Laker It was unanimously i resolved that it was desirable to proceed at once with the construction of the line, which is 35 miles in length. Also, that the capital of the company be £150,000 in 16,000 shares of £10 each. Mr H. Bastings was appointed secretary, and Messrs Seivwright and Stout were appointed solicitors to the company nnd instructed to -draw up tbe articles of association. , It was resolved that the gentlemen ' present at the meeting should form teemaelves into a provisional directory. — • Herald.'
