Crookstown.
-■ (Erom our own' correspondent.) Since my last we have passed through what at first appeared to be-a trying harvest,; but I am happy to say -turned out in the end much better than we at- one time anticipated; and crops were secured in first-class condi- -.-■■ i 3 .'-■ *7 -» ' X '7 r tX *■-'? -, . .ion.- *■■■■■ -- >■'• ■-■' -" f "■_s'% Threshing was finished three weeks ago, and the returns, both as to quantity and quality, have fully borne me out in. what I stated to you previously. Air the last meetmg^ of ?^he^ > Education Board this district was declared a school district and a teacher granted, but when he is to be appointed is more than I can: say. We have a Sunday School once a week and Divine Service once a fortnight,- both of which are pretty, well, attended by both old and young. Ten days ago we had a week of John Frost; now, we* have fine weather, which is much more pleasant! '. On the 20th April, a Progressive Committee was elected to look after the interests of the district as our member for James Riding has done nothing for us by way of roads. At a meeting held some time ago a resolution was carried to the effect—' 'That Mr Kitching, member for Jianies Riding be written to, asking him to appoint a day to meet the settlers so that 1 they could meet him and' point out their wants." But as yet that: gentleman has not thought proper to send a reply. At last meeting of the Tuapeka County Council, it ; was )r jr^greed that a re--distribution of the ridings in this part might "be better represented, with which I quite agree, but* a' re-adjustment of members might do us some good and give ub better representation-: The stir about our railway has almost ceased, and the the Tapanui people must, I suppose, be content- to get ' a glimpse of the iron horse or Yogel Velocipede, as it passes them at a distance, of about a mile on its way to Kelso. Anyhow the Captain keepß rather quiet Bince he has partly gained his point and has been promoted to the gunboat , Kelso.
