Tokomairiro Road Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on Friday eveniug, in the Cnu ucil Chambers, Milton. Present— Messrs G. Liudaay (chairman), Parker, Murray, Watt, Allison, Wisely, Twiss, Dall, Martinj Tweedie. . ■ " ' The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed. COTiBESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr D. Carson, agreeing to pay half the cost of cutting a ditch through his property iv block VI, providing that the work was completed by the Board to the satisfaction of its engineer. Received. - ' From Mr James Lees, lessee of the Bruce Company's coal mine, a cheque for 223/ being 3d per ton on coals sent from his mine during the month, towards the maintenance of the coal road. From Mr J. C. Gordon, requesting permißsion from' the Board to remove a clay bank - on the road near Mr John Martin's property, for filling up purposes. The letter was received and the request granted. From the Bruce County Council, acknowledging receipt of letter re County Council subsidy, and, in reply, forwarding a resolution which was agreed to at a meeting of the Council-held on 6th November. On the motion of Mr Parker, seconded by Mr Murray, the letter was received for consideration. ACCOUNTS. . Gordon, £29125. On the motion of Mr. Wisely, seonded by Mr Twias, it was agreed to accept the ■ta.ider of D. Gordon. For ihetoliing five chains road, in Helensbrook subdivisions— Jauie.s.NewbiggUsg,£2s ; Job CockeriUj 424, \i was agreed that J. Cockerili's tender should be accepted.. . John Boyle's tender of £6 10s for the erection of two culverts in the Southbridge Sub-k division, was accepted. RBPAIHS TO BOADS. It was agreed on the motion of Mr Parker, seconded by slr Twiss — " That tenders Bhould be called for maintenance metal for district road leading from Milton to Greenfield." .;■;■ ... Mr. Martin moved, and Mr Allison seconded — '* That tenders should be called for maintenance metal for district road lead** ing to Southbridge." Agreed, to. On the motion of Mr Parker, Seconded by Mr Watt, it was resolved — "That:tendars should be called by next meeting for metalling road in the Southbridge subdivision, near Mr Fleming's property." THE GLBNLEDI DIFFICULTY. The resolution which had been agreed to at the last meeting of the Bruce County Council re the subsidy of £50 to the Road Board toward* makinglheroad up Loudens Gully, and forwarded by tho Council to the Board, was then taken into consideration, and after a long discussion it was agreed, on the motion of Mr Dall, seconded by Mr Tweedie— "That the Board Bhould abide by its former decision," . petition. - The following petition, signed by 87 per-, sons," was. read :—" The humbia petition of the undersigned, being Jand owners, ratepayers, and residents in the township of Milton and Tokomairiro district, humbly shftweth — l-it. That your petitioners experience gvetyt/.inconveriietjce owing to the want of a pa,ssabl.Q roa^. from Tokomairiro to the A.ka'tore-and coast districts. 2nd. That the diaranca from Tokomairiro to the sea coast ia about 12 miles, and that a good and sufficient road has . for some time past boan formed fur about nine and a-half miles of. that distance, namely, from TokiVmairiro to the south east corner of section 82,blyok IX, property belonging to Mr Melville, and from the south east corner of section .12, block T, ■ Akat-jrf,- to the sea coast. 3rd. That an excellent rotid oould be foi-med for the remainder of the distance (namely, 2£ miles) through, sections 6, 8^ 10, and 12, block T, Akatore, foe the noniioal cost of £250, 4th.
