The Hon Major At kinson, the Premier, writes to the * New Zealand Times': a letter (apparently a copy of « one written ; to Agent-General) in reference to certain New Zealand statistics published in Westgarth's Circular in January,' 187?. Hearst point* out that the Circular publishes the amonntof flew Z«a^o4 revenue for 1873^ uuiea* of

that for 1876. The table in Westgarth'a Circular made out that the revenue of Now Zeal and for 1875 wu £1.677,626, while that of Victoria was £4,236,423. The Preraior, quoting from the New Zealand statistics, ■hows that the receipts in New Zealand for 187*> amounted to £2,841 953 instead < f only £1. 677,626 as compared with £4 236 423 re ceived in Victoria. He alto points out that although there was a note in the Circular stating that the amount given as New Zealand revenue was ex-provincial revenues, still that left an error of thirty thousand pounds. He requests the Agent-General to make a personal explanation to Mr Westgarth and get him to rectify the error pointed «wt, aud i»lao inform him that he oaa obtain all statistics of th« Colony and the information relating to its progress at the Agent General's oftic«. The Premier appends to the letter * tabulated statement of all the sources of the revenue of Victoria and New Zealand for 1876. The total* are: Victoria, £4,236,423 ; New Zealand, £2,841,953. He exhibited careful drawings Of them made by Mr T. S. Cousins. Some of the rock paintings are loft long. They represent animals^ of foreign countries, weapons, and dresses of semi-civjJised people underneath them. There are characters like those of the Tamil language, resembling those on an ancient bell found in the North Island. W. J. Sykes end W. J. Fallow, charged with forgery and uttering, were found Not Guilty. Pooley and Bramball were acquitted. j April 7. The Board of Governors of the Canterbury College have decided to advertise for a Lady Principal for the Girls' High School at £450 per year, and a bonus of 5s for each pupil ; •tao to ask the Government for an endowment of 6000 acres of agricultural land for the school. The Board appointed a committee to ■elect a farm for the purposes of an agricultural school. The new Museum buildings will be opened by a conversazione on 24th May. j
