Dunedin Races.

«. The following were the various amounts paid over by the Jockey Club on Tuesday to the winners qf the various races : —

These amounts include the percentages of sale and purchases of horses, the total amouufc paid in prizes by the Dunedin Jockey Club being £2332 6s. The settling between the bookmakers and the public may be termed but partially satisfactory, for while the former were &t their posts to a man the latter did not muster in atrong force, and many of the metal licuns were bewailing their misplaced confidence. A great outcry would be raised if a bookmaker failed to meet hia liabilities, but certain backers of horses appear to think that their wagers stand good ynly when they win. As the latter would have no hesitation in "posting" a defaulting bookmaker, defaulting backers should ha served in the Bame way. One good result would ensue, for people who cannot afford to bat would then keep themselveß out of difficulties, A few disputed beta \n connection with some of the list-men were brought under the j notice of the Club, but no decision was | arrived at in any of the cases. — ' Star,'
