General to the effect that it seems desirable I that some information relating to the land i systems prevailing in the several districts of the Colonyshould be circulated in Great Britain for the use of intending emigrants. In the present state of the land laws in the Colony it seems desirable that this should be done by the Waste Lands Boards of the several land districts, in whose hands the sale and letting of Crown lands is placed, and each board could supply such facts and statements i as might seem likely to be most useful for the purpose intended Should the Board approve and adopt the suggestion, I have to request that you will be so good as to forward to this office for the approval of the Governor any statement on the subject which may be drawn up by the Board of your district. Mr Bastings— Who is Giles ? Mr Strode — He has lately been appointed Under- Secretary for Crown Lands. Mr Bastings believed it desirable that some plan of the country for settlement Bhould be prepared. He suggested that they should epitomise the Land Act. Mr Strode remarked that it was so intricate he could not understand it. Mr Bastings, speaking with reference to the communication, said it would not do for them to propound a policy that would not meet with the sanction of the House of Representatives. Agreed that the Chief Commissioner and Mr Bastings be appointed a subcommittee to draw up a statement affording the information applied for, to be submitted to the Board. TAPANTJI.
