THE REVISION OF THE BIBLE.
The Bey. Wm. Macdonald says the present Assembly was composed of all Protestant denominations, and was divided into two committees — one on the Old Testament, and one on the New. The Old Testament Committee had had great difficulty with tlxe natural history of the Bible, the names of many of its animals being very difficxxlt to trace to their Hebrew or Greek source. The New Testament Committee were also much confused over the woi'd " hell." Some were desirous of striking it out altogether and substituting for it the ■> Greek name Hades, or the Hebrew title Gehenna, and on one occasion a grim joke was perpetrated xxn consciously by the chairman asking those who were for hell to put up their hands, when about thirty did so.
