The General Election.
I BBUCK. The election of a member to represent the district of Bruce in the House of Representatives took place yesterday, Mr William Archibald Murray being returned without opposition. At noon, abjut tweuty electors had assembled at the Courthouse, Milton. The Returning Officer, Mr J. P. Maitland after reading the writ, called for nominations. Mr Joseph Parker proposed, and Mr Peten' Cunninghame seconded, Mr W. A. Murray, and there being no other nomination, t»e Returning Officer declared Mr Murray duly elected* The announcement was .received -with, applause. Mr Ivinn-ay said— Mr Returning Officer jmcl gentlemen, I thank you. for the honor you have conferred up cm me, by restoring to me that confidence which for the last five years you J\a.vo reposed in me. haw ft important iriilu^ce r_poa the future of this Colony. lam glad to see that so far as the elections have gone, the people, appear to have taken a lively interest in that which so intimately affects the welfare of the Colony. To-morrow evening I shall explain my views, and hope to hear an expression of 'opinion from my fellow colonists. I will not detain you at the present time by delivering any lengthy address. I will thank you again for your expression of confidence, and move a rote of thanks to the Returning Officer — (Applause.) • The vote of thanks was carried, and the proceedings terminated.
