Launceston, Oct. 9th
The premises of several bankrupt firms have been closed to-day, and there is complete stagnation in business.

London, Oct. 7th
Sergeant MereAvether, the Conservative, ■has been elected for Northampton, in the place of Mr Charles Gilpin, Liberal, deceased. The election led to serious riots on the part of the supporters of Bradlaugh, the defeated candidate.

Count Arnini is kept closely confined, his release being refused. The missing documents which caused his arrest belong to the Archives of the Paris Embassy. The Count denies all knowledge of the greater portion of the documents, but claims the remainder as private property. The matter has caused considerable excitement in official circles.
Berlin, Oct. 7th
Prince Hismarck has submitted a Bill to the German Bundesrath (the Legislative Chamber, consisting of the delegates of the Confederate GoAernnient, representing in all 58 A-oters, and whose consent is necessary to a declaration of war), placing the Laudsturm (a division of the army, consisting of old men up to 60, whose duties are confined to the defence of hearts and homes), at the disposal of the Emperor in the time of war. The Danish Ambassador at Berlin has been instructed to make a representation concerning the expulsion, by Germany, of Danes from SchlesAvig.

The alleged Avounding of Don Carlos is officially contradicted. There arc serious dissensions in the ranks of the Carlists. General Dorregarry has been dismissed, and General Mendevis appointed his successor.
