Waste Lands Board.

(From the ' Guardian.') There were present at the ordinary meeting of the Board yesterday — Mr J. T. Thomson, Chief Commissioner ; Messrs A. C. Strode, J. L. Butterwortb, J. Eeid, and H. Clark. ■ ASSESSOB. The report of the Assessor on the carrying capacity of runs 448, 449, and 450, namely, 550, 1000, and 450 sheep respectively, was approved. » COAL LEASE. Consideration of a letter from Mr C. T. Marie, relative to his application for a coal lease of section 117, block 11., Laaning Eock, and a complaint as to delay in dealing with his case, was adjourned. TAinVIKI- ISLAND. The application of Messrs Paul and M'Pherson, on behaif of Mr Stephen Tall, for a lease of Tauwiki Island, near the mouth of Catlin's Biver, was next conBidered. The Board decided that the land should be leased under the 160 section of the Act, at LI per annum. LEASES. The applications of the following persons for exchange of leases under clause 62 were approved. Mr Butter sections, G5 and 6Q, block VII, Shotover; John Crossan, section 32 block, I, Cairn Hill. . AGItICULTUEAL LEASEHOLDS. Applications were made as follow to purchase agricultural leaseholds: — Eobert Le3li section 29, block 1., Cairn Hill ; John M'Donougb, sections 5 and 30, do. do, John White, section 28, do, do, J. E. Kemp, sections 53 and 54, do. do. The foregoing applications were approved. PETITION AGAES'ST SALE. A petition was received from Mr Robert Blair and others, against the sale of section 9, block VIII., Dunedin and East Taieri district. It was. decided that 42 acres should be cut up by survey into four sections before sale, and that the whole reserve be sold in sections. INDEX. 1 The receipt of a copy of Mr J. A. Connell's 'Analytical Index' was announced. The Commissioner said he had gone cursorily over the work, and thought it an excellent one. Mr Strode : I think so to.Q. Mr Eeid :. The woik appears to be very carefully got up. After Mr Butterworth had expressed an equally favorable opinion, it was resolved to recommend the Government to supply the Board and various offices with v copies of so useful a work. The proceedings then terminated.
