'(From a correspondent.) Caledonian games held at Mataura Bridge on Boxing day, December 26th, .18711—Foot race, 100 yards— -Ist prize, LI, Jno. OughtOn; 2nd, 10s, H. M'Kay. Three entries. A well contested, race. Throwing heavy hammer-Mst, LI, S. Templeton; 2nd, 108, Wm. Shanks. This game was particularly well contested between the two takers, there being only 1 inch between them ; distance, 67 feet (> inches. "Weight of hammer, 171bs. Putting heavy stone-^-lst, LI, Thomas Maben ; 2nd, ss, H. Cameron. 4 entries* Vaulting— Ist, 15$, Jno. M'&bboft ; 2nd, ss, W". GoodalK 4 entries. This was splendid vaulting lor non-pro-fessionals, the highest vault being above 8 feet. Running high leap — Ist, los, H. M'Kay; 2nd, ss, Thos. Roberts On. '6 entries. This wound up an easy event for first prtee, the height of jump being 5 feet & inches. Hurdle race, 400 yard?, 8 flights hurdles —Ist, LI, N. Bain/ 2nd, 10s, J. M'Gibbon. 5 entries. This race was a gift to Bain, who bounded over the course like an indiarubber ball. Sack race, 50 yards — 10s, 11. M'Leau. 6 entries. Tossing the caber— *l os. Robert Kidd-. 12 entries. The winner proved himself " no kid " by the manner in which he tossed the said caber. Flat race, 200 yards— lst, LI, N. Bain? 2nd, 10s, Jno. M'Gibbon. 5 entries. Another gift to Bain, who evidently has great speed. Wheelbarrow race, 100 yards— lst, 15s, W. Pryde. 4 entries. Tilting the ring— lst, saddle, value L 5, H. M'Lean j 2nd, breast-plate, value LI, Wm. Laurie. 21 entries. , . Owing to the heavy wind blowing during the match-, the tilting was not up to the mark. After the games were finished, there Were ttfO hurry scurries with horses-, and one private match between Mr Bain's mare, Prairie, and Mr D. Antony's, Stranger, who started as the favorite, , but was soon lambed down by Prairie. There Were six entries for each scurry, both end' ing in favor of H. M 'Kay's-, Blazes, who cantered in. Tile fun of the day woufid np with a ball in Mr Pollock's new store-, which proved a great Success.
