(To the Editor of the Bruce Herald.) Sib— l am sure that a stranger paying a visit to our rising township would be astonished to find that we had not got a place that a public meeting could be held in, or a Public Hail. There are few, I think but what will agree with me that such a thing is wanted very badly, andnevermore so than at the present time, ■as I am happy to think thai we have at last got a Court of Foresters started, and one which is likely to become a very strong. But I hear a great many object to join because it is held in an Hotel. This I consider a very poor objection, as any member can go to the room— if so inclined — without even entering the bar. Still, if this is -going to prevent many from joining, the sooner it is remedied the better. I believe a neat and well-finished Hall could be erected, to; hold 400 people, (a sketch of which, can be seen at Mr. J; Dicksbn's, Architect, next Mr. Lockhart's,), for the sum of £400, and a piece -of ground could be go^,. very cheap. Four Hundred Pounds looks a large v sum of money to invest in a Hall; an d'^ so it is^for one person, v bu"t I think a Company could be formed to raise that sum,- say in £10' shares, and I think a good many of my brother Foresters would take shares in it ; and some of our gallant Volunteers,, for whom it would be a capital place to drill in; and would be very handy , to/~!hold Concerts arid Soirees, and everyonejMrould then be . able tq-»get a seat -and adopt that good old' plan ai Teanieetings of helping yourselves and not been served in a cooksh.el^*style. Trusting that some one who is abler to write upon the subject will ' take ■' it up and that we shall soon have one started, I beg to remain. Yours, &c, ADVANCE TOKOMAIRIHO.
