AUCKLAND HOSPITAL.

A STATE Of ANARCHY PREVAILS. [Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April IS. Some trouble seems to have occurred within the ranks of the nursing staff of Auckland Hospital. On three separate occasions the baths on the top flat of the nurses' home have been allowed to overflow, with the result that serious damage was on each occasion done to the furniture and effects of the rooms bc- , low. In reports submitted to the Hospital Board this morning it was , stated by both the lady superintendent and the second engineer that , there was evidence that the incident was the result of a deliberate intent on the part of some person or persons. The engineer also reported that the master valves had been tampered with, so that the supplies to this portion of the institution had been interfered with. A letter of protest was also received from five sisters on the top Hat, complaining that they had been suspended because of this occurrence, and had consequently been held up to the ridicule of the nurses, porters and patients, their names having been placarded in the hall by the matron. The chairman said that when he visited the. hospital on Monday morning there was a regular lake on the sitting-room floor, and it had been there since Sunday morning. Mr Coyle said it seemed to him a remarkable thing that because the bath overflowed five sisters and the sub-matron were suspended for a whole morning. He wanted to know what effect this suspension had upon the institution. Dr. Inglis said the matron had informed him at seven o'clock in the morning of the suspension, and had informed him that she had replaced the nurses. 1 Mr Coyle said he was not at all satisfied with the statements before them. He moved, "That the honorary medical staff be asked to submit a full report upon the suspension and the effect it had upon the institution." Mr Potter contended that, the resolution Avas out of order, and if accepted would mean a grave reflection on the heads of tl*e institution. The motion was carried. i - _—.
