Mr J. G. Gow, (Chief Inspector, who recently concluded twenty-five years' service under the South Canterbury Board of Education, has intimated-his intention to retire at an early date. The Rev. 'H. S. 'Leach, who has been / acting vicar of St. Luke's parish during the absence in England of the Rev*. W. W. Sedgwick, has been appointed to succeed the Rev. R. J. Thorpe, as. vicar of Sumner.
A Wellington telegram announces the death of Mr Hugh Pollen, secretary of the Department for International Affairs. Deceased was a son of the late Hon. D. R. Pollen, M.L.C., one time Premier of New Zealand.
The many friends of Mrs Bowden (better known as 'Miss Kathleen Beauchamp, a daughter of Mr Harold Beauchamp, of Wellington) will be interested to know that she has just published, through Stephen Swift,and Co:, her first book, "In a German Pension." Her pen name, "Kathleen Mansfield," is likely to become the reading public.
