UPPER PIRI PIRJ.

Since last writing, the Liberal candidate for the electorate, has paid us a Hying visit, and promises to give us another visit at any early date.

The beautiful weather of the last day or two is having a very beneficial effect on the pastures, and the dairy herds of the district are increasing their supply of milk in a rapid manner.

The contractor for tho bridge in Kotare road, will finish his contract to-day, and the work of filling in the approaches will be commenced immediately. The settlers will then have the use of a-very strong and neat looking structure in place of the very awkward temporary makeshift now in use.

Those of our settlers who have gone in for sheep are reporting very good percentage of lambs. In one or two instances shearing is being carried out.

Mr J. M. Rule has made a start with substantial additions to his residence in Tataramoa road. Mr Dunn has also made a start with the erection of a large residence on his holding.

MAKOTUKU.

The annual meeting of the Cricket Club was held in the public library last night, there being present: Messrs H. N. Benson (in the chair), J. Neal, F. Grayling, J. and N. Hallett, W. Vaughan, and J. Mildon. The balance-she showing a credit balance, was read and confirmed. As most of the players and members of the club have left the district, it was resolved to disband the club. The material was left to Mr Grayling to take charge of, and if the remaining members of the old club see that a new club is formed on a proper footing, they will do all in their power to assist the new club. It was resolved to hand the balance over to the school for the prize fund. The secretary, Mr N. Hallett, was accorded a vote of th:mks for his' active work in keeping the club together last yea)'. A. vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.

The quarterly meeting of the Domain Board was held hist night, there being present: Messrs W. Robinson (in the chair), J. Fitzgerald, W. Pike, and W. Schaare. It was resolved to call tenders for the leasing of the Domain. Mr Robinson was authorised to see Mr A. B. Davis about-the fencing of the Coronation Oak. This matter was dealt with at a previous meeting of the board,, and tb" tre has not been fenced in yet. This concluded the business.

Mrs Lee-Cowio gave an address in tho Foresters' Hall last night on ''National Prohibition and local No-Incense." Mr C. Meares presided, and there was a fa/ir attendance.

The station verandah is now completed and gives a very fine appearance to the •station. A «axu: of workman are now bnsv asphalting the platform, and whrn this is conmleWl the station will be as good as can be desired.
