It was extricated and taken into Bankstreet, where it ran into the gutter and was much damaged. All, the fittings of the shop, and a portion of the counter and shelves, were torn away. The contents of the.-win-dow—consisting of sides of bacoli, sausages, preserves of various kinds, honev, eggs, and butter, were strewn in confusion o-ver the floor. The explanation is that the steering gear failed to act. The fore-carriage of the car was greatly damaged, the springs smashed, head-lights broken, and fore-wheels buckled. The Premier stated that the driver had had the car out without authority. He thought it was in the garage from early in the evening. The driver is not employed permanently in the State office.
