MANGATERA STOCK-LOADING YARDS

Following is the .petition now being signed for presentation to the Minister f o.r Railways : Si T) —Your petitioners respectfully urge that the present loading yaxds be moved to. the north western eaid of tlie present railway yard, and in support of the request have to urge. (1). The present yards are inadequate, and inconvenient having tivo frontages" to a main road. (2). The main entrance is alongside the open railway crossing, renderimg it difficult to induce shy cattle to go into the yards ;' and causing delay of trains in picking up loaded trucks. (3). There is mot sufficient accommodation for a large number of stock, or to hold three or four small lots of stock over night. (4). Stock is disturbed at all hours by road traffic. (5). In the .north western end 1 of the railway yard, there is a natural bank, well drained from whic'h stock could be loaded with ample room to accommodate say 30 trucks instead of only three as at present, a,nd sufficient railway ground, if fenced and divided up, to accomodate several lines of stock. (6). The suggested situation is down a blind road, away from the general traffic, and would work most conveniently, with' the present irailway facilities. In view of the. large increase in number of stock trucked during past twelve months, your petitioners respectfully pray that new yards be erected on, a more up-to-date- plan, with facilities for loading on the site referred to.
