Acceptances for the Waipukurau Jockey Club's Easter meeting will close on Monday. Final payments for the Great Easter 'Handicap, Great Autumn Handicap, Champagne Stakes and Challenge Stakes fall due .with the Canterbury Jcckev Club on Wednesday next. All Red has been allotted 9.1 in the Sydney Cup. It is reported that the Conqueror gelding Naumai will be sent to Australia in the near future. Windage will not be able to race again for some little time, as one of his front legs has filled. The ex-New Zealand steeplechaser Phaetonitis, who is rising fourteen, is again being trained in Melbourne. Sid. Reid is reported to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery. This well-known jockey had the misfortune to dislocate liis collarbone at the recent Shannon hack meeting. One of the latest additions to the hurdling brigade is Centaur. The gelding ran creditably at the Napier Park meeting, and with a little more schooling the son of The Possible should be a worthy addition to the "lepping" brigade. Nero is looking really well, and will not be long in crediting his owner with a stake. Sen Sim, who broke down in the spring, is in work again at Taulierenikau. Turnut and Osiris are keeping well, and both are expected to give a good account of themselves at the Canterbury Easter meeting. Gold Crest, who is owned by Mr J. R. M'Donald, of Levin, has definitely retired from the racing track, and will take up stud duty at his owner's farm next spring. It is stated that R. Hatch will pilot Penates in the Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton. Mr J. O'Driscoll, who recently purchased Waitapu. intends to race the gelding on the fiat for a short time.

Taskmaster is showing decided signs of lameness, and he is not likely to race at the autumn meeting at Riccarton. Mr F. Garment, of Levin, has a full brother to Thetis in training, and good accounts are expected of the Advance gelding when he makes his appearance. The acceptances received by the Feilding Jockey Club for their Easter meeting are highly satisfactory, and. those who wish .to witness good and interesting racing should not fail to be present. Sir Antrim is reported to be goingwell, and will be given a run in the Mangaone Stakes. The Cup .will be productive of some first-class performers, namely, Crucinella, Milan, Parable and Sandstream. Coronetted has a number of admirers, and will no doubt command a good deal of support. Windage figures in the Taonui Hack Hurdles, but it is unlikely that the chestnut gelding will start. Somali has been doing good work of late, and is expected to run prominently. Research is looked upon to show to advantage in the Halcombe Welter. Guiding Step, who has always run disappointingly, will be a starter in the Maiden Hack Race on the second day. Red Seal (who is closely related to Platypus) will contest the Onga Hack, and should run well. Bobrikoff's success in the Rawson Stakes at Rosehill on Thursday will be received with pleasure by all sportsmen in the Dominion. The meeting of Bobrikoff with Prince Foote is being eagerly looked forward to, and there is no doubt that the New Zealander will take a lot of beating in any weight-for-age events. At an unregistered Maori race meeting held at Tokomaru a few days ago some amusing scenes were wit- j nessed (says the Poverty Bay Herald). In one race a horse with the peculiar name of "Hot Stuff" was a contestant, and was heavily backed, especially by the Maori women, and when Hot Stuff came in first there was great rejoicing. The lucky ones, unable to restrain their pent-up excitement, burst forth into a stirring liaka. However, so much for the uncertainty of racing, in a following sprint Hot Stuff suffered defeat, and having been supported almost to a man by the .Maoris, a very different tune greeted the horse as he trailed in behind the others, and it was amusing to see the unfortunate speculators walk olf the course (the beach) with a dejected look, muttering: "Oh, him no good; all the same the snail."
