MAHARAHARA SPORTS.
There was a splendid attendance at tiie Maliaraliara sports held on the Fapatawa Domain yesterday, -between tliree and four hundred people being present. For the iirst time in the liistory of the club, th# weather was tine, although rain came on about iuilfpast four, necessitating a few minor items being cut out. The domain proved in every way suitable for the gathering, and the attendance stamps the ground as being in every way suitable for the sports. The various events passed off successfully ,and a well-attended dance was held in the evening. The results were as follow : Boys' race: J. Maconochie 1, J. Hughes 2. Girls' race: G. Hughes 1, G. Spicer 2. 75 yards: W. Price 1, Fergusson 2. High Jump: W. Blake 1, W. Price 2. 220 yards: Fergusson 1, Billington 2, Foster 3. ; 440 yards: W. Farreley 1, W. Woodger 2. 880 yards: W. Farreley 1, J. Best 2. Putting the stone: M. Smith 1, E. Hughes 2. Married men's race: M. M'Cl^aiy 1, T. Hughes .2. Chain-stepping competition: E. Jensen 1, G. Bailey 2. Tilting at the ring: J. S. Nelson and Geo. Buchanan tied. Forced handicap : Foster 1, Lyllian 2. Maiden-jumping competition: G. Buchanan's Buttercup 1, A. \V. Hutchin's .Lady 2. Sheep guessing competition, weight 571bs: Mrs James, Al. O. Grainger, and E. Harding guessed the exact weight, and divided the prizes. Faz*reley, of Hastings, Avon the points prize, and M l ' Cottriss' trophy. Mr J. S. Nelson gave an exhibition of horse-leaping with his well-known show performer "Dick."
