A LAND BALLOT.
[press association.] WANGANUI, This Day. The land ballot for Ilangitatau and South Waimarino sections is proceeding. There is a large number of applicants, the successful applicants being debarred from subsequent ballots. Though the bush on some of the sections is felled, residence is not being enforced for four years, the Land Board considering the settlers run the same risk as on fully bushed sections. In opening the proceedings the Commissioner said he knew dummyism was being attempted at the ballots, but he would fossick any of that out before the confirming results on March 31. The applicants are pleased at the liberal terms, and evident protection of genuine settlers bv the Board.
