NORTH ISLAND BAND CONTEST.

WANGANUI WINS THE NELSON THE B GR&DJzX^^ [press association.] WANGANUI, March 16. The first tests took place this evening. The B Grade bands, of which there were ten, played first, their test piece being "Belle of Brittany." Xhe Nelson Band topped the list with 128 points, Wanganui City being next with 124, and Gisboi-ne : City third with 119, and the others placed as follows: Cambridge 118, Wellington Tramway 117, Waitara 115, Blenheim 108, Eeilding 105, Mania 102, Opunake 90. The judge said Nelson put up an excellent performance. The Eirst Grade contest between Wanganui Gari'ison and Petone proved a very eas3 r thing for the chamrpions, who, in the language of the judge, put up a very line performance, while Petone came in for rather unfavorable criticism.
