A HOSTILE DEMONSTRATION

James Patten, the American speculator, was the subject of a hostile demonstration at the Manchester Royal Exchange, members elbowing him and shaking their fists in his face.
They compelled the Cotton King to take refuge in a neighboring office.
With the. assistance of a strong police guard, he escaped through a fire exit and immediately entrained to Liverpool, where he was sympathetically received. He resails for America to-day.
