THE TENNIS TOURNAMENT.
The Tennis Club may well feel pleased with the nominations they have received for their annual tournament on the 21st and 22nd hist. The fact that the Hawke's Bay championships have been allotted to Dannevirke is of course largely responsible for the increased interest that is being shown in the approaching fixture. In the men's ehampion'singles there are 22 entrants; ladies' champion singles, 16; men's champion doubles, 16; ladies' champion doubles, 10; combined champion doubles, 22 ; in the men's handicap singles the entries total 54; ladies' handicap singles, 35 ; men's handicap doubles, 25; ladies' handicap doubles, 20; combined handicap doubles, 40. Messrs Fisher (Wellington), Abbott (Hawke's Bay), Upton (Auckland) and Dickie' (Taranaki), the North Island provincial champions, have entered. Owing to the heary entry, as many local games as possible will be played off on Thursday afternoon. Given fine weather, the tournament should provide as good an exhibition of the game as has ever been witnessed in the province. The full list of entries will be found on page 2.
