A BOAT CAPSIZES
FOUR MORE DEATHS. Press Assn—By telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, January 17. A wire from Wee Waa reports that a boat capsized. Mr and Mrs Grace and Mrs Chapman a;:d her daughter Ave re drowned. The flood is the biggest on record. The telegraph operator Avas then leaving the office, Avhich Avas surrounded by Avater. Telegraph communication has since been interrupted. Raihvay traffic between luverell and Moree, Avhich Avas stopped OAving to the fiools, is not likely to be restored for some time owing to a collapsed bridge and the destruction of tAvo other bridges having blocked the line between Warialda and Bingara.
HEAVY LOSSES OF STOCK. 20,000 BAGS OF WHEAT RUINED. (Received Januarv 18, 8.4.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Though the floods are receding, wide areas are still under Avater, and many outlying places are cut off. The losses of stock are very heavy. Round Gunnedah it is estimated that 20,000 sheep have perished and many cattle. The stench from the decaying carcases forms a menace to the health of the toAvn. Hundreds of cattle, after SAvimming for miles, managed to escape. People returning after two days' absence found their homes in a terrible state, and feet deep in filth. In some cases they Avere blocked by dead animals. Amongst other hea\*y losers, the North-western Grain Company have 20,000 bags of Avheat ruined. (Received January 18, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Government is offering to help distressed families in the flooded districts. As the result of damage to the waterworks and electric plant, TamAvorth Avill be without light and water for some days.
