EX-VOLUNTEERS.

(To the Editor.) Sir,— There is an old proverb, "Forewarned is forearmed," and I trust that this dominion will reineni-. ber^ it. In this town there are a great number of ex-volunteers, etc., who, althoitgh- knowing the routine of "featherbed" soldiering, do not do anything else towards the practical side of to uphold our country's safety. Nor, Sir, Avould it be possible for one of our local municipal officers to call a meeting to go into the ways and means of raising a corps of exsoldiers and volunteers. The question of expense need be only small, as I take it uniforms would be needless, but the rifle and the bulls-eye would have to be the principal object. Doubtless the Defence Minister, If approached, would see his way to get this idea subsidised. Trusting that an abler pen than mine will take this matter up.— l am, etc., H. MILLS.
