LEPROSY ON COOK ISLANDS.
[press association.] WELLINGTON, to-day. Carl jKohn, now in Wellington, who Jived,-19 years in Raratonga, derides the reported spread of leprosy in the Cook Islands, which he characterises as an alarmist • report from the usual source, the London Missionary Society. He considers the statement that people are doomed if precautionary measures are not taken as preposterous. There lias been leprosy in the group for 40 years, but if is confined to Penrhyn Island, 650 miles from Raratonga, and the victims are isolated ~on a little islet. 6nly two cases have been heard of in Raratonga> for years, and one of the patients was sent back to Tahiti, whence -he came.
