It.is l been sitting since May last ye -jr. recommends a comprehensive scheme of remodelling Sydney, including the immediate introduction of underground electric railways in the city and suburbs; the widening of Elizabeth street the entire length to not less than 100 feet ; and creating, widening, and improving some other streets. Other recommendations are generally the beautifying and developing of the city; the removal of Pyrmont bridge; providing new traffic routes tOi the wharves; dealing with slum areas: and housing reforms. • It is considered the scheme will meet with the needs of the traffic for the next .25 years,' at the end of which, at the present rate of increase, it is estimated the population of the city and suburbs will be- one' million and a quarter.
