[OWN CORRESPONDENT.] A special meeting- of the School Committee was held on Monday to consider -the applications for the post of headmaster. Three names' were 'sent on by the Board. From among them that of Mr T. Stephens was selected. Mr Stephens has been tlio first secondary assistant at the Hastings District- High School and holds a B.A. certificate. ■ Miss Morgan, from ■•Gisbdrnc, is relieving here till the appointment made. Sho .it a good teacher. The debate on No-license that was to have taken place early this month was postponed out of res^iect to the memory of the late Mr Stewart, of Esdale, who died just then. The debate has been fixed for Wednesday, July - 7th, at 7.30, in the Council Chambers. "Mr Griffiths will champion the" cause of License and Mr J. !R. Franklin that of No-liceuse. As i nearly all have an interest in this subject, it is •expected there will be a big attendance. There -are 13 children now attending the Ti Tree School and two more are expected shortly. The settlers are agitating for a schoolroom to be, j "built on the school reserve, next the ■pound.' The Ti Tree Mutual Improvement Society vrill no doubt, be glad to lur© the room for its meet^ ings. - Mr T.. Grant's house is finished, and looks very well from the road. The old telephone office has been removed and now forms part 'of Mr T. Grant's store — progressive little Ti Tree, The good wishes of all the neighborhood are being sent by wireless telegraphy to Mr- and' Mrs Grant, who are being married at Masterton to-day. .
