TE AUTE 17, WANGANUI 0. Yesterday's Standard contained the following : — A great crowd of spectators lined the oval and . filled the grandstand at the Showground this afternoon for the annnal football contest between the two colleges. The ground was sodden and a little slippery, aiid interfered a good deal ay ith scientific play. Wanganui Avith a strong wind behind them attacked vigorously, but AA-ero not able to get over. The Maoris showed a tricky and resourceful defence, and' occasionally got att'iiy with itn irresistible forward ' rush. Near the end of the first spell, from a scrunfon Wanganui'sline, Pohu dived over near the corner, and dreAv first blood for Te Ante. \ Wanganui continued to- attack, but liad no luck, and then another clever native got awsiy and raced right through his opponents and over, but he Avas called back. The spell ended Te Ante 3, Wanganui 0. With the AA'ind in their favor the natives immediately sailed in strong, and in tAAO minutes, from a pretty pass by Tepana, the skipper, Hokia, got over near the posts. The kick was a failure. Continuing their attack, Te Aute, avlio were considerably heavier than the Wanganui boys, made things pretty .warm, but their opponents defended desperately. Shortly after the natives again added another score, as the result of a forward rush, Miro diA r ing over. Another score followed shortly aftev ; From a pretty piece of back play "Wallace" secured the ball, and with a lovely run passed three or four men and got over. A goal .resulted, making the total 14 — o._ Another fonvard scramble saw Potako get over, bringing the total np to 17 — 0.
