THEFT ON BOARD SHIP.

SAILOR PLEADS GUILTY. (PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, last night. At the City Police Court to-day, before Mr Widdowson, S.M., James Nicholls, A.8., of the barque Lakemba, plea-decl guilty to stealing nine bottles of stout from the foreliolcl of his vessel while at the wharf. The captain said that accused had gone there with an unprotected light, which was dangerous, and no doubt this-practice caused many fires at sea. Acciised was committed for sentence. On a second charge of stealing 30 bottles of beer and 731bs of candles during the voyage from Wellington to Dunedin, accused pleaded guilty and elected to bo dealt with siimmarily, and he was remanded until he could be dealt with by the Supreme Court at Dunedin.
