At a largely attended meeting o& the local branch of the National Defence League last evening, including a large number of ladies, it was decided to form a women's branch, and also a red cross corps. It was alsodecided that the citizens of Wanganui provide a championship rifle challenge belt, and team, shield, to be competed for annually by primary schools aaid cadets throughout the dominion. The meeting was very enthusiastic and a large number of members enrolled. ■ , t The returns of the electric tramways for sis months ending June 9, show that since the installation 601,---357 passengers have been carried. The net revenue amounted to £4297, which, after providing interest and sinking fund 1 , and maintenance, leaves a small credit balance.
