HIGH SCHOOL v. WOODVILLE SECOND.

This match' was played at Woodvillo yesterday. High School won by 5 points to 3. Cook scored a try, which was converted by McKenzie, Woodville scoring one try. High School were unfortunate in the first spell in losing the services of L. Warrant, who hurt his ankle. However, at half time, McVay, the Woodville captain, with true sportsmanlike spirit, allowed the % High, School to put on Vally Franklin in place of the High School boy who had to retire. Both High School wingthroequarters made the fatal mistake of trying to collar high, instead of tackling their men at or 'below the knees. McDowell played far and away the best- game among the backs, not making one mistake. The High School forwards, generally played well. McKenzie at half played his usual good game,, but made a few mistakes in trying at times to- do the jggjjlole of the back work himself, at full, showed that he is true grit, but made one mistake in speculating. The game was very fast and hardfought from start to finish, the.Woodville team playing with great determination, the Woodville forwards having the benefit of weight in the scrums. The Woodville backs played •good football, McVay especially. On Saturday next the local High School boys will play the To Auto thirds. . The match will take place on the "Rec.," commencing at 1.15 sharp. A good game is anticipated. This will be the first match this season for the secondary schools cup, won last season by the High School boys. Mr Watt will referee.
