Press Assn— By telegraph— Copyright. LONDON, yesterday. Tho Press Conference discussed the question, of the press and .the navy. - Tho Hon. R. McKenna, First Lord of tho Admiralty, presided and urged tho placing of tho navy above party, Tna&ing it an lmperial question. In tho sense of partnership tho navy was common to all. ■ s • Sir .Edward Grey, discussed the functions of the press in the matter of criticism. . He held that the press' should not be 'partisans in war time, but should show its patriotism by observing silence upon many things they kne>y. * Lord Cromcr urged stricter control of tiio vernacular press. Mr F. Wi Ward, editor of the Sydney Daily Telegraph, made a notable speech. Tho other speakers were the Hon. Alfred 'Lyttelton,' Messrs Gwynne, Maitland/Park,.Aniery and Sunronda Nath Banerjee (editor of the Calcutta Bengalee).
