THE NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.

- ; — : — ■ SPLENDID ENTRIES. Although the entries arc not yet •complete for the show, sufficient headway lias been made against the great pile by the clerks to show^ that in some departments at least some great records have been put up. In addition to the splendid exQiibits in the machinery hall, and the huge entries in the butter and cheese classes there is a fine entry in the apple class. The display of apples will be the largest ever seen in competition in the dominion, and will bo probably just J twice as large as any previous record | at the local show. It will require a j table over 130 ft long to stage it, there ! being over 200 different exhibits and ! no less than 24 collections in the champion class,' whilo the exhibitors ' include nearly all the- principal growers of both Islands. \ Another fine class is that devoted to farm roots and vegetables. The entries are equal to the very best the Society has ever had, and contain a wide range of exhibitors from the different provinces. , The school garden work always has been a f oa.ture ,of tli-o exhibition, and this 3 r ear it has assumed greater proportions than'orer. No less thau. ten schools are making displays in school gardens mid nature study work, besides the many entries in the competi T tivo classes and the natural history collections. Home industries hitherto have been rather a weak feature of the Dairy Show, but this -year they will be exceptionally strong, exhibitors having entered from as far away as Taranaki and the Waikato. For the milk testing competition 25 pupils have entered from the different schools. There is likely to be a very fine display of fat sheep this year alsoj while the poultry classes have drawn exhibitors from Wellington, Hawke!s Bay, and Taranaki. '. The greater variety and number of the entries this year has necessitated considerable alterations in the staging of exhibits, and visitors to the show will find that the benching of goods is a great improvement on previous years. Altogether the exhibition pronises to be a huge success, and the Association are looking forward to a record attendance. •
