MAHARAHARA.
[OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Mr G. J. Goldfinch received word yesterday of the death at Ohakune of his grandaughter, the only child of Mr George Goldfinch, tho Avell-knowu Ohakune sawmiller. Much' sympathy will be felt with tho bereaved parents, who are both well-known here. 'In my report of the Heretaunga fancy dress ball I inadvertently omitted the names of Mesdames J. IT. and G. H. Dean, who were attired .as a "Gipsy". and '{Starlight" r,espeetivcly. Mr E. Pritchard, the manager of tho Maharahara creamery, is to be entertained at a social t-his evening, and will be presented with a purse of sovereigns. . • This district is not often the scene of a motor mishap, but Wednesday evening was an exception to the rule. Mr Armstrong and a party of friends were journeying to the Masonic banquet at.Woodville and made a detour from the Main Road to call upon friends.. In rounding a sharp curve upon the Valley Road; 'the chaffeur turned the car too sharply, and landed the vehicle in a very muddy creek up over the wheels. A neighboring : farmer's plough team, was requisitioned, but they failed to place the car' on terra firma. Not to be beaten 'the party secured a buggy and drove on the seven miles necessary to complete their journey.' '.Next day a Straker engine from Woodville succeeded in hauling the car on to the road again.
