PRECIOUS RADIUM.
While the late Professor Curie was lecturing on the wonderful element one day in Paris, he dropped the glass tube containing' a few grains of radium with which he was demonstrating, and, the glass -breaking', the precious powder was scattered over the floor. At once the room was cleared, every speck of dust collected with the greatest care, taken to the professor's laboratory, dissolved, recrystallised, and the radium extracted from th^e refuse again with the loss of only an infinitesimal fraction. The cost of radiuni bromide is about £7 per- milligramme^ which would mean over £200,000 for an ounce avoirpupois.
