In connection with the sale of Holbein's picture, Christina of Denmark, Duchess of Milan, cabled on May 2nd that the purchaser was about to sell to an American for £75,000, when subscriptions saved i.t for the nation. One anonymous donor gave £40,000, and the Treasury added £10,000. •
