Mr Cutten, S.M.. said the Committee had decided to hear all the applications for licenses and .then decide, which would be renewed, and after hearing all tlje evidence Mr 0. Nicholson, solicitor for several licensees, said that meant .calling the evidence for every hotel. The practice hitherto followed in -, districts where reduction was carried was for the Bench to intimate the number of houses it 'proposed to close and also those it was prepared to grant a renewal to. • ' , Mr Cutten said the Committee had the re-por-ts of the police on the accommodation and conduct of the hotels; If the licensees were not prepared to accept these they could call evidence. Mr Nicholson pointed out that one licensee, feeling, sure of a renewal, might not ca3l evidence and another less favorably situated might, with the result that the latter might secure the renewal instead. DUNEDIN SOUTH. DUNEDIN, last night. The Dunedin South Licensing Committee refused tho renewal of three licenses, the maximum allowed as the result of the reduction mandate at the local option poll. The question of issuing bottle licenses, was held over pending the decision by the City Licensing Committee next week. WELLINGTON, to-day. At the annual meeting of the City Licensing Committee, all the licenses were renewed.
