KIRITAKI.

On Friday afternoon the break-up of the local school was celebrated by a gathering of parents and interested friends io see the prizes distributed to the scholars.' Pastor Bies ■ had. been invited to present the prizes, but owing to a little misunderstanding as to time he did not arrive at two o'clock, the time set, and Mr Smith, chairman of the committee, made a start with the work. In his opening remarks Mr Smith said he was peased to see so. many | parents present, and drew attention I 'to the improved state of affairs in school matters. : He felt" sure that as time went on the progress would ■be even more marked, and he felt pleased to present prizes to children who showed such a tendency. The ;committee had provided a prize for each scholar, and 'in addition some special prizes had been given by Mr Bain, both the teachers and "other '•friends." (This proved to be Mr Smith himself, who geaiermisly gave two prizes for attendance in' the upper room and then a few shillings being left, two prizes for attendance were also given in the lower room). ; After a few books had been given .out, Pastor and Mrs Ries arrive"?!, ' -and were heartily welcomed. Mutual, explanations ensued and Mr Smith then gracefully resigned his position to Pastor Ries, who said that he, was very pleased to be present and complimented the parents on taking

r a' lceeii interest in fheir children's education.
