Yesterday a prisoner named John Jones, endeavored to escape from a gang Avoiding .. in the courthouse grounds, but >yas recaptured by a gaoler before, he got very far. When collared he struck his capturer a sever© blow' ;on the fact, and assistance had to be secured before Jones was 'finally., overpowered. At the court this morning, Jones was sentenced fo six months' imprisonment for attempted escape from custody and; -assault; ;
