THE MASTERTON ELECTION.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTON, to-day. Mr Gillespie, returning, officer for Masterton electorate, has been-serv-ed with a writ for mandamus at the instance of Mr Pownall, represented by Skerrett and/'Wylie, to appear at the Supreme Court on Friday to show cause why he should not publish an amended notice of the result of the late licensing; poll, in accordance with the magisterial" recount. The facts are that Mr James, S.M., ordered this amended poll to be published, but on Mr Gillespie directing his attention, to certain clauses of, the Act Mr James withdrew the official order. | The court to deal with the petition to upset the recent licensing poll was adjourned, till the afternoon io allow of Mr McArthur being present. Mr Hollings, solicitor for the Nolicense party, formally applied for an adjournment on account of the inability of either counsel on the other side to be prpsent. SAn adjournment was granted till Monday, llth January, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. .
